It doesn't seem like dietary and drinking plenty of water helps with constipation from copd

I don't know what to eat that won't cause severe constipation from copd. Fiber and drinking plenty of water ate not helping. And I am tied to my oxygen machine so exercise is pretty limited. I almost feel like not eating at all ; and have cut down a lot on food intake.
Losing weight which seems a good thing from not eating.
It is just a nightmare to eat anything yet I do get so hungry at times . But I know I will pay for it

Have you contacted your medical team? I have not heard or read of this as being an effect of COPD. I know that certain medications can cause constipation. Anything is possible, as different people react to medications differently. Could it possibly be a side effect of one of your inhalers? Sure it is possible. Not eating is not a good solution. Is this a sudden change or has it been ongoing for some time? If it is sudden, then obviously something changed that you might be able to pinpoint. If it is has been ongoing for a while, there is something else causing it that you cannot pinpoint. Please contact your medical team before it gets to be worse and possibly causes a hospital visit. Take care and God Bless!

    1. Right Dminor, I take a narcotic for other related issues and is causes constipation. The VA prescribed me Lactulose, it is not a natural substance, and is used for liver patients to help remove ammonia from their system. A side effect is loosening of the bowels and gas. What I DO eat more of now than before is pears. I looked it up and there is a natural laxative in the composition of pears. Who knew, right? And it is not just pears, it seems that there is a fairly large number of varieties that also offer some help with this. Perhaps it can help with not losing weight from eating fears, and still offer some help with the rest of it. Not a doctor, still figuring this out myself, but I am more than happy to try and help by sharing what I know.

I know that when I was recovering from mycobacterial pneumonia, I was on 4 different antibiotics daily for a year. These caused major nausea and loss of appetite. My doctor prescribed Ondansetron to combat the nausea. While it did a good job getting rid of the nausea and loss of appetite, it caused major constipation. Probiotics helped that along with an increase of water. It was funny to me because every morning I pooped deer pellets! That was how my bowel movements came out daily. Like deer pellets. But I made it through. Supposedly, apples also are suppose to help constipation also. I say whatever works is what you should do. Your doctor should be able to help with that. Take care and God Bless!
