How To Support Someone With COPD

What are ways you could be better supported while having COPD?

  1. For myself, it would be so helpful to have someone to come in to change bedding, dust, do floors and help organize. Maybe one room every couple of weeks. When I do these tasks, I’m always down for a couple of days after. Even wearing a mask, I cough more and there is so much pain in my back as well. I don’t feel like I ever get anything done.
    How about you? Please share!

    1. I feel the same. We are too rich to get help through the home health and too poor to pày for help. I pay 225.00 a month for insurance

    2. I pay similar as well, because of add ons to Medicare. It sure doesn’t go far does it? Hopefully doors will open up sometime, to make it possible for assistance for cleaning, etc. My husband was able to help quite a bit, until he had triple bypass surgery a couple of years ago.

there is so much truth into what you said about services in the home, less expensive then a home for the elderly.

  2. Me, too.

    1. Knowing the actual results of test.

      1. Thinking about you and wishing you all the best! I can certainly understand why you'd feel so scared right now. Are there certain things you like to do to stay calm and manage your fears? For me, a good book helps me get my mind off of things, or if I'm really struggling, YouTube has been a good resource for calming meditations or breathing exercises. We are here to listen, too! I can only see it as a positive that you have had AFib for this long and have been blissfully unaware. 😀 Hopefully the next 21 days will breeze by and you can get on the road to stability again. Hugs and very best wishes to you! -Melissa, team member

      2. Hi Melissa. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I, too, have my escape mechanisms, I love music, any kind, depending on my frame of mind. And when that isn't enough, I get on U-Tube and follow trains. I have built many different HO scale sets in my time, not able to anymore though, just enjoy what others are doing now, and how far it has advanced with electronics. Oh, I know y'all are there for me and so many others. I appreciate your words of encouragement, guidance, and I enjoy just hearing from you. My world seems to revolve around so much negativity, lately. Especially with my wife sick, and then falling. She is seeing her orthopedic doctor today to follow up on her questionable elbow fracture and her back. Just keep us in your thoughts and I will get back with you as soon as I find something out. Best wishes to you and all the staff.
        Sincerely, Recondoc

      1. My doctor keep giving me new medication, to the point I'm tired now because no body is answering my questions. I asked what stage of copd do I have, I'm still waiting for an answer.
        Until next time take care.

      2. Hi . If you feel like your doctor isn't listening to you, I hope you consider finding someone new. You need and deserve an empathetic doctor who responds to your needs. Always remember you pay for those services even if your insurance or Medicare covers the appointments. I hope you get some answers at your next appointment. It's good hearing from you. Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)
