Why am I not feeling the benefit when I breathe in oxygen from my concentrator and portable concentrator.?

  1. Good morning As a respiratory therapist, I do have a couple thoughts on your question. If I were to assess you at your home, the first thing I would do is check your oxygen level while you are wearing your oxygen. You can do this yourself if you do? Is your oxygen level staying above 90% or whatever your doctor prescribed for you? Do you have a pulse oximeter so you can check? Also, it may be a good idea to have your medical equipment provider come to your house to check your equipment to make sure it is working properly. There's a simple test that takes about 2 minutes they can do.

That said, and assuming your equipment is working properly, it is possible to be short of breath while still having normal oxygen levels, as I explain here (https://asthma.net/clinical/oxygen-levels). This is especially true when you have airway obstructions, where air and oxygen can get in but have a hard time getting back out -- causing air trapping (which can make you feel short of breath even if your oxygen levels are normal). If you continue to be concerned, or you are feeling worse than you normally do, then this may be a good opportunity to contact your physician or visit an ER or health clinic. What do you think?
