Stage 4 doesn't necessarily mean you are in immediate danger. The stages of COPD are divided up based on how well your lungs are functioning, but a person can live with even stage 4 COPD for many years. And while there is no cure for COPD, you can sometimes see improvement. I'm curious about why your doctor made no other recommendations besides "take care of yourself." It sounds like it might be worth having another conversation, maybe by video chat, phone call, or even messaging in your patient portal if one is available. Are there other medications you haven't tried yet that they could offer you? What about pulmonary rehab? This is a day program or a home virtual program that teaches you good breathing techniques along with exercises to support your fitness within your capabilities. These things can help you to feel more comfortable and capable.
If you can't get a clear answer or plan from your doctor, please consider a second opinion from a different doctor. You need to work with someone who is committed to helping you, especially if you still want to explore other options. If you are determined to keep trying, the right doctor will support you with that, or be very clear when that is not an option.
