Second opinion

So I’ve been contemplating getting a second opinion on my diagnosis. I’ve been taking the prescription meds and honestly I feel the same. My issue was always ongoing nasal congestion and tightness/heaviness in chest and the meds don’t seems to help with that at all. I don’t have issues with cough but lately I’ve been having a sore throat which is probably due to the inhalers. I just want to know if any one else had these types of symptoms because I’m just not understanding how this serious condition would’ve been missed by my previous doctor.

  1. Hi Nattee, and thanks for your comment. I am hopeful others in the community will see your post and respond by sharing their own anecdotal experience(s) managing this disease. I do have something to contribute as well.
As you may be aware, COPD affects patients differently. As well, the treatment for the disease, and response to prescribed medications, can vary widely among patients, too. In addition, there are other medical conditions that may be associated with this condition. Some are referred to as comorbidities.
I have found, both professionally and personally, that not all doctors are created equal. Perhaps your previous physician did not recognize your other symptoms. This may be some of what you are describing - do you think that might be the case?
You may want to seek out another physician who is more understanding and knowledgeable about your current and specific medical condition(s). Perhaps a new physician, who is more attuned to you and your level of disease might be able to provide more effective treatment.
    What do you think?

    1. Hi Nattee,
I would definitely seek a second opinion. If the meds are not working and you feel no better, than maybe the diagnosis was incorrect or incomplete. I am lucky in the aspect that my medical team is unreal. Everything they have prescribed and everything I have been told to do has worked to a "T". It sure makes it hard to recover and feel good about your own health when none of it works. So please seek another opinion. Let the forum know what happens. God Bless!

      1. thanks, I gave the meds a week to see if it just needed time to work since that’s what I read online but still no relief

    2. I am at 4stage COPD and my VA doctor told me to use a Nebulizer 4 times a day so i can breath better, and it help,s me breath better from Frank B from CT

      1. Hi Frank! Thanks for your service. I'm glad to hear the nebulizer is helping you to breathe a little easier. We always appreciate hearing input from our community members. Keep up the good work! -Melissa, copd.net team

    3. Just curious if you've made a decision about seeking another opinion about your diagnosis? Sometimes even if it's only for our own peace of mind, it's a good idea to get another opinion.
