Heat and Humidity

How do you fight the heat and humidity of summer?

  1. I pretty much stay inside with air-conditioning. Any suggestions?

    1. I tend to find ways to deal with the heat but find that high humidity thins the phlegm in my airways. This in turn makes it easier to cough it up which minimises the congestion.

    2. I do the same. Haven't found anything else that works. My husband goes out with our grandchildren all the time and I feel like they think I let them down in some way. They are to young to really understand.

  2. Hi Mary and thanks for answering Stephanie's question to the community. That is a perfect way to avoid the heat & humidity in the summertime, by staying indoors where it's air conditioned.
We have also heard that when folks 'need' to go out, they reduce their exposure by trying to go out early in the morning or late in the evening once the heat and humidity have dissipated.

    1. Hi ! I'm brand new here. I'm Rene1949. I have, I am told, COPD/Emphysema end stage. No, I don't agree. I 'll detail my condition another time. I haven't much time before company comes today so I wanted to get this posted first. How do I fight the heat and humidity of summer ? Well, besides that wonderful a/c, I spend time in our pool. It's not a big expensive thing. BUT, I can sit on the bottom and be in the water up to my neck .. all day ! I have my travel oxygen with me, although it's not always in my nose. When needed, I use it. When air quality demands, I wear a surgical mask. I have a chair-umbrella that is hooked to the wood frame, keeping me in total shade the whole time I'm in the water. I have a 6" battery-operated fan that, if needed, is aimed right at my face. I keep plenty of cold water for drinking and watermelon cubes to prevent dehydrating. I am in the process of creating a partially submerged float to sit in/on to read my books. Right now, I kneel in the water and prop my book on the wood frame. Now I hope this helps somebody else. My company is pulling in the driveway so I have to stop. Have a Happy Independence Day, Folks, and make it a safe weekend ! Breath Easy !Seeya's ! Rene1949

      1. thanks for that tidbit ,I might have to try it ,As I'm on oxygen 24/7 ,my body doesn't deal well with humidity above 68

      1. I sleep a lot!!!! I work outdoors until the sun gets too hot, then try to do indoor chores, but find laying with my swollen feet and ankles elevated leads to many mini naps. Evening comes and it's back outdoors for the evening check-up. I also have to watch for rattlesnakes, as they seem to have the same activity pattern as I have. Life in the Arizona desert!!!!
