COPD and Nucala

I have copd and asthma. I am about to start treatment with Nucala. I'm quite leery about it, I guess because it's a monthly injection and I've dealt with that before. I'm desperate to hear from other people who are currently on it.

  1. Hi mzzbehavin, and thanks for your post. You've certainly come to the right place. I am hopeful others in the community will chime in and share their own personal experiences with this treatment (Nucala).
Have you had an opportunity to discuss your genuine concerns with your prescribing physician. Your doctor should be made aware of your apprehension when it comes to starting this therapy.
You mentioned that you have had other experience(s) with monthly injections. You will certainly want to mention this to your physician as well.
We do have some material published which focuses on Nucala. It is available on our (free) sister site, asthma.net. For your convenience, here is a link to that article: https://asthma.net/treatment/nucala.
    What do you think?

    1. Yes, I have discussed all this with my doctor. I've never been on a regimen of injections never mind self injection. It just seems like a big step. I am committed to try it though because I can't go on like this. The only thing that relieves my breathing issues and makes me feel like a normal human being is prednisone and I can't keep taking that. I would really like to connect with other people on Nucala, to compare reactions, etc. This seems like a great group.

      1. I also have COPD & was on Nucala a couple of years, then it seemed to quit working.
        Haven’t found good pulmonologist since.

      2. Hi Tigger, and thanks for joining in the conversation. May I ask, what happened to the pulmonologist? Is there a reason you're looking for another?

    2. I just started it yesterday. I have found out my breathing is different, can not take deep breaths, strange, like if I walk more that 10 feet, I feel my breath is out, not like without Nucala, I still breath, but with weezing

      1. Thanks for writing back. Your post is totally fine -- a big part of why this place exists is to give people room to vent with folks that actually understand. You are always welcome to do that!

I hear you about all the housework. Breaking it down into small chunks is probably best -- you might not get ahead, but even the small tasks are helpful and will give you a boost. Take your time with all of it, especially the paint -- does it affect your breathing?

We are always here for you! -Melissa, copd.net team

      2. Oh I know the foot peddler thing! I have one of those too. LOL. It's a great way to bike without biking -- good for you! Hopefully you can also watch some good TV while you exercise. -Melissa, copd.net team

    3. Update, I do understand that it takes 3 months to reach max potential. and Breathing will be different, so this is new to me.

      1. Thanks, yes, it takes one day at a time, I had a hard time last night cooking supper, then took a nap, about 6 hours later got up to do dishes and make hubby's lunch....and it is different, hard to explain......, but I can go longer and do not feel light headed any more. IT just takes time for it to takes its course!

      2. it definitely takes its time but glad you're doing a bit better today, just keep doing your best and trying to not overdo it! All the best, Sam S. (COPD.net, team member).
