Depression

Is anyone taking an anti-depressant for COPD? If so, does it work?

  1. Hi . Many people in this community take anti-depressants/anti-anxiety medications to help them cope, so I hope you get lots of feedback in this forum. Here is an article about one person who copes using several different strategies, including anti-depressants: https://copd.net/living/ups-downs. If you do try them, I hope they help. Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Hey there ... how have you been doing since you posted this a few weeks ago? Depression is a real beast, especially when chronic illness and this freezing winter are involved. Have you been talking to your doctor about starting medication for mental health? Everyone is different in how they respond to medications, and especially with antidepressants it can take some trial and error to find the right fit and dosage for you. You might also want to consider talking to a therapist -- the majority do telehealth now and take insurance. Medication is a powerful tool, and having a space to process your feelings and gain new coping skills builds on that. It's like a one-two punch.

Wishing you the best, from someone who has been in that place. We're here for you. -Melissa, team member

  3. I had a physical last Monday and talked with my dr. about it. He suggested that in lieu of anti-depressants, to talk with a therapist first. I called and made an apt. and had my first phone visit yesterday morning. I have another scheduled in Feb. I think this is going to help and just her stating that a lot of people feel the same way that I do about certain things, has already helped. Logically, I think that you already know this, but it helps to have someone else say it.

    1. In all my years doing this I can say that I have seen, many times, people be helped just by knowing they are not alone and that others are going through or have gone through similar things. It sounds like it wouldn'nt make a difference, but it really does! You are certainly not alone! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
