Chest Infections

How do others deal with constant chest infections - one after the other, with only a short break between clearing one infection before another one starts, so am worried I shall build an eventual resistance to antibiotics and steroids?

That is a good question and not so easy to answer. I don't have constant chest infections, but have had my share of them in the past few years. This past year was a rough one. I had the flu, followed by spring allergies, followed by a sinus infection. A rough start to the year. Dealing with them is not fun. I first contact my doctor at the first sign of infection. I do get immediate antibiotics and Prednisone, that help me get over the infection and prevent it from turning into something worse. I also am concerned with antibiotic resistance. Some of the things I do to help prevent getting infections include: staying away from crowds and crowded places, avoiding bad weather days outside, nasal rinsing daily, taking Prednisone as soon as I feel something coming on, wiping down light switches, doorknobs, and anything that has a lot of hand usage with IPA, washing my hands frequently, are some of the things I do. This time of the year is when I seem to get most of my infections. Holidays with family and friends gatherings are also infection fests. I do my best to not be hugging family and staying as isolated as possible during such gatherings. Most of my family and friends understand my COPD and do their best to accommodate anything that might trigger a flare up or infection. That is another point, make sure friends and family understand that being sick or too close to me is not acceptable. I will stay home or leave the gathering if such circumstances are present. I have no obligation to be sociable if there is a good chance of catching an infection. Otherwise, just use your common sense to stay away from any situation that might cause you to catch an infection. Sometimes this causes isolation and can be hard to deal with. But it better than being sick. I hope this helped a little bit. Take care and God Bless!
