I got a really bad flu a couple of weeks ago. I'm still coughing up phlegm. Now I know you often get acute Bronchitis with flu. However,
will this turn into a chronic condition or can I expect relief with more time ?

Sorry to hear this Sal. Is this from going to your grandson's Christmas play or a separate infection, or an infection at all? I was just wondering because I remember you got sick after attending the play. I somehow managed to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas family get togethers without getting sick. Knock on wood. I know I cough up phlegm pretty much every day since being diagnosed with COPD. I do believe that chronic Bronchitis is a COPD caused condition. I take Mucinex daily and keep hydrated to cough out the mucus as much as possible. I was wondering if you are still taking Dupixent shots? And if you are, do you have side effects? I seem to have some that make me wonder if the shots are worth it. I do breathe easier, but I do have sore muscles and joints daily. The soreness make good sound sleep a bit hard to come by, due to constant tossing and turning to relieve the soreness (mostly in my legs and lower back). I also have itchy and burning eyes a lot. I am hoping the side effects will wane as my body gets used to Dupixent. We shall see. As far as your bronchitis is concerned, I think it might just be something you will have to deal with daily. I am not sure your medical team can do much about it as long as you don't have an infection. I would be interested to hear more details about the mucus or phlegm problem. Take care Sal and God Bless!

I had no phlegm before coming down with this Flu. That is what makes me think it is acute rather than chronic. My wife got sick around the same time and she is still coughing up phlegm too. I have had it for about a little over two weeks. Most likely from the play.
Regarding the Dupixent. It was wonderful for about three months. Cleared up all my symptoms for that time. No side affects that bothered me. Then it stopped working as far as could be determined. Yes my eyes itch and I have leg cramps but I think that comes from Abuterol.
I'm on Nacula now. I just took the second dose. Who knows with my present condition if it is helping.

The last time I actually had the flu, it lasted for over 2 weeks and a resulting cough lasted for a month more before finally going away. With COPD lungs, any upper respiratory infection can last longer that it would for a healthy person. You said in a different thread that your doctor gave you prednisone and an antibiotic to prevent it from becoming something more serious. Like Southpaw said, I would contact your doctor again and let them know it hasn't gone away yet. It certainly won't hurt to do so.
The Dupixent thing for me is aching leg muscles and knees. Sometime the knuckles in my hands ache. I have been using Albuterol for 4 years now and have not had any side effects from it. So who knows. Sometimes it seems like the medical people don't know. Hang in there and keep us posted as to how you are doing. Take care Sal and God Bless!
