COPD
My name is Debra, and I'm 55 years old. In February of 2025, I got sick with double pneumonia and the flu. I was in the ICU with a feeding tube and intubated for 2 weeks. I was unconscious. They diagnosed me with COPD, congestive heart failure, and stage 3 renal failure. I've had respiratory failure a couple of times since then and was hospitalized on and off for a year. I was on hospice and dying and was sent to a Health and Rehab (it's also a nursing home). I graduated hospice and am living long-term in the same facility. I am on oxygen 24/7. When I get out of breath, I become immobilized, and my anxiety goes through the roof.
I am terrified of suffocating to death. And believe that is how patients like myself die. I do everything I can to avoid exacerbations. I really want to be on hospice to get the meds I need and to be assured that they will give me comfort meds when I die, but they won't put me back on hospice. Just looking for comfort and anyone who actually reads this novel I wrote LOL, thanks.
