Wildfire smoke

I live in Canada and we have wildfires leading to smoke where I live .
Does anybody know how much fev1 can decline after breathing wildfire smoke ? I had a lung function test but the air quality was poor and I was walking outside before getting the test done . I had even had an exacerbation right before my test . My test results were lower than expected for my fev1 . I wonder if it was due to the wildfire smoke and I should request a new test on a day when air quality is normal . The smoke comes and goes here and is not daily . Thank you kindly .

  1. Hi . I wish you didn't have to contend with that. It's bad enough when the winds blow the smoke across Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway to where I live in Pennsylvania on the New York Border. I can't imagine what it is like to live with even heavier smoke every day while living with COPD. I hope the fires are under control soon. I am not sure whether wildfire smoke would specifically impact fev1 results, but here is an article from the EPA about particle pollution that might interest you: https://www.epa.gov/pmcourse/particle-pollution-and-respiratory-effects. One section specifically discusses COPD. I hope this helps and that you get relief soon. Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)
