Lungs chronically inflammed

I've been experiencing what I can only describe as a tightness/pain in my lungs. I haven't responded to symbicort after several months. Albuterol doesn't help either. I haven't seen a pulminologist yet, but the referal was sent in. I've been told I had chronic bronchitis as well as asthma.

My lungs just hurt pretty constantly. I quit smoking 2 months ago and honestly it seems like things just got worse. I was only having one lung bothering me and now it's both. Is there any hope to get this under control or am I just going to be in constant pain the rest of my life? I'm honestly pretty scared.

While I cannot predict that your pain will continue or be gotten under control, I can honestly say that if you get a good pulmonologist and all the proper testing, your chances of getting things under control are good. Sometimes it takes several different inhalers or treatment medications to find the right combination that works for you. I am very lucky in that I have a great, very responsive medical team, and they have my COPD under very good control. Being scared is a normal mental reaction when you are not seeing any improvement with what treatments have been given. It is going to take CT Scans, PFT tests, and close monitoring and examination by a good pulmonologist to get things where they should be for you. How long before you get in to see a pulmonologist? If it is going to be a fairly long time and you are still suffering, go to the ER or contact your normal medical team. If they cannot help you, then change doctors. My doctor is a pulmonologist, an internist, and a nephrologist. So my pulmonologist is also my family doctor. I somehow lucked into that. But please do not sit at home and suffer. You have to be pro-active for your health. Take care and God Bless!
