What are glass opacities? How do they impact airflow?

  1. Hi . Ground-glass opacity is a term used to refer to a hazy areas of density found in images of the lungs, but that density could be caused by all kinds of things. We are not medical experts, so I can't really say how much they would impact airflow. Do you have a COPD diagnosis? Has your doctor determined what's causing the opacities? - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thanks for answering. I may change pulmonologists because I don’t feel like I get enough education. I have both Lupus and COPD, but I don’t feel like I understand what’s happening in my own body. I see 4 specialists and they don’t really talk to each other. When I lived in New Mexico, I saw 3 specialists but they had a team meeting about my conditions. I’m on meds for COPD, including oxygen at night or during the day if my sats drop below 90. I’m also on Lupus meds. I recently had pneumonia and I had a Lupus flare. Either could be causing changes in my lungs. I’m giving this current pulmonologist 1 more visit to give me better answers or I plan on going elsewhere.

      1. I'm glad to see that you are willing to advocate for yourself and find a new doctor if this doctor isn't communicative enough. Personally, I will take an empathetic, communicative doctor over one who is highly rated, but who takes little interest in me as a person. I hope this doctor proves to be a good one but, if not, you find the kind of doctor you need and deserve. Warmly, Lori (Team Member)
