E Tanks Oxygen

My question is with all the technology we have (Can send a singer to outer space, cell phone just to name a few) but can't make a battery last longer for portable oxygen concentrator or how about contusion flow concentrator?? I have to take E tanks everywhere I need to go and since I'm on 4 to 5 Lt 1 tank last 2 hrs. I live in the middle of the country it take 1 tank to get to town and another the get home so that's 2 ! Let along I try to get as much done when I'm out. Grocery shopping, pick up prescriptions, go to the doctor's, you know all the s*** everybody has to do on a day-to-day basis just to have a life. I had to take a wagon with four bottles just so I could watch my grandson play baseball. So why can't they do better for those that have to depend on Oxygen 24/7 We are not all bed all day, we like to leave our homes, meet up with family and friends ect

  1. Limitations on the assistive technology that helps us is extremely frustrating. I have been on y own chronic illness journey for decades now and every time I need something that doesn't exist or only has a bad version available I'm like "I can't be the only person who needs a better one of these.." It makes me wants to invent something sometimes but with the limited energy I have each day it is hard to find some to spend on projects like that! Just know you are not alone in your frustration! 1. Couldn't agree more with both of you. I have often said that this is a great time in history to have a disability because there is more technology, research and kindness than in the previous generations ... BUT we still have an incredibly long way to go, sometimes. They say that the population of older adults will continue to grow ... while that may not make a difference for you and I, my fingers are crossed that medical support will be more practical and accessible for those coming after us, since the need will be greater.

Have you looked into the possibility of a portable oxygen concentrator instead of a tank? -Melissa, team member

  2. Yes, thanks for your comment. I've bought 2 portable air conditioners. A cheaper one and an expensive name brand one. This problem with these products is they don't do continuous flow. It's great for anyone one 1-3 oxygen with a battery lasting about 2 hrs so you have to carry a lot of charged batteries. Buy at least 2 or more. Insurance doesn't cover portable oxygen concentrator. I'm on 4 to 5 LT depending on what I'm doing. I'm 47 with Emphysema, Secondly Polycythemia vera,Hyperoxemia and have pulmonary fibrosis scars.

    1. Just wanted to chime in, I'm not sure where you live but in New York there is a program that helps people obtain oxygen concentrators with charitable resources. It might be something to look into in your state or where you reside. Let us know if you need help checking it out! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
