Any experience with expand-a-lung?

Has anyone tried using the expand-a-lung? I've recently started using it, since I quit smoking. It seems to be helping a lot with my breathing, and keeping my lungs clear. Would be interested to know what other people think.

  1. I had to look this up, but I did have 2 similar devices that I had to use in, and shortly after, my ICU stay. One worked on inhalation strength, the other on exhalation. Both did help me during the rehab phase, and I still have the one for exhaling, as that seems to be my bane of existence. I can breath in just fine. It's getting it out where the problems begin.

    1. Thank you for getting back to me. I really was hoping for more advice and opinions on this device.

      1. This is an article I found for exactly the same device I continue to use since therapy ended. This device you mention targets the same areas as this does, but I would suggest that you may be able to avoid some hype and talk to your doctor about getting one of these. As with any 'for-profit' sales of 'new' devices, the mousetrap has already been proven to be a trustworthy device as well. Rarely do I see a better mousetrap.

        1. Thank you for the information you sent. Was very interesting. I would be interested in trying one

          1. Hi! I've never heard of Expand-a-Lung. It's a good idea to talk with your doctor before trying anything new, just to make sure it's safe for you.

As for incentive spirometers like South Paw mentioned, these are extremely common tools for improving lung fitness. Even people without COPD have used them while recovering from surgery or infection.

There is another common device for managing mucus and lung health called a flutter valve. We have a good article about them here:

All of these are available relatively cheaply online, or you can ask your doctor to prescribe them if you want to submit it through your insurance.

Let us know if you end up trying any of these! -Melissa, team member
