Query Apnea

I have severe stage copd.
Recently when I lay down to sleep it feels like my throat is closing up at the back.Does anyone else get this?

  1. Hi , thank you for reaching out! I hear how much you are struggling to breathe when lying down. Many in the community struggle more with their breathing when they are in a flat position. Sometimes it can be helpful to find ways of elevating the head for sleep. Using extra pillows, a wedge, or a recliner are approaches that others have found useful for getting better sleep. Sleep apnea is also a concern for those with COPD. Having COPD/apnea overlap is a common diagnosis within the community. Your struggles with sleep and feeling like your throat is closing should definitely be discussed with your doctor. You might ask about a sleep study to help determine if some of the challenges you experience could be from sleep apnea. 1. Thanks Allyson. I already sleep with 3 pillows as I also have oesophagus problems and sometimes even a drink of water flows back up!
But I will definitely use those links and have a read up. Thanks so much. 😊
