Covid vaccine anybody?

How many on the board have had the vaccine? Did you have any side-effects? I’m still trying to decide what to do about it. I’m really scared of it. I had a flu shot several years ago and thought I was going to die. It made me so ill I was in bed for 3 days. I am very sensitive to most meds.
I had an appointment this week with my Pulmonologist and he was furious because I did not have my Covid jab. He told me if I caught the virus he didn’t think I would survive it because I have COPD, Stage 4. He was very brutal about it. He has no idea how much I worry about already trying to decide what to do. I’m so afraid it will affect me like the flu shot did or worse.
I would appreciate knowing what your experience was.
Thank you!

  1. Hi deciding to get the vaccine can be a really difficult and personal choice and I am sorry your doctor was so harsh with you. I think your concerns are valid but maybe a few of these articles from our site and one from the CDC will help you feel more informed and ready to make a decision. I'm linking one article from our site about the vaccine, a forum of other community members who had a similar concern, and the CDC's website with a ton of information of the vaccine. I hope these help! https://copd.net/living/covid-vaccine, https://copd.net/forums/covid-vaccine, and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/index.html All the best, Sam S. 1. Hi Mila. I can relate as I have similar issues with flu shots along with an extreme allergy to anti-histamines, which causes anaphylaxis and means I can have deadly reactions to shots. I was about to get my first covid shot a couple of weeks ago when I came down with a kidney infection that caused me to have to take antibiotics for ten days, so we had to put the covid shot off. But now that is clear, so they are coming this week to give it to me (my home health care Doctor). She will be bringing an epinephrine shot as well, just in case I have a reaction, and will stay to monitor me until we know I'm okay. You can probably arrange this too with your doctor. They should be willing to monitor your well-being for up to an hour or so after the shot, which should be enough. Like you, I always get ill with every year's flu shot, sometimes worse than others, but never fun. I will post on how this experience goes as soon as I can. Later, I will have to get the #2 covid shot, etc., a flu shot, and pneumonia shots too.

        1. I got the vaccine as soon as it became available. It's a totally different type than the flu shot (which I also get every year). After the first one, I was achy and felt like I needed a nap. Second dose I just felt tired for the rest of the day. Your chances of avoiding serious illness are so much better with than without. I haven't ever had a serious reaction to a flu shot, but the Shingrix made me SO sick.

          1. , thank you for joining the conversation and sharing your experience! All the best, Sam S. (COPD.Net, Team member).
