Re breathlessness

About 5 years ago I had 75% of left lung removed.due to cancer.but since then no matter what I do I get very breathlessness.but when check ol' it's showing around 95% my GP has done bloods and nothing came back.i also get a sharp pain in left side just above ribs .it feels like a knife
If I rest my OL can go below 90% I have spoken with GP but nothing happened.can someone give me some idea on what it could be.i have a breathing nurse seeing me this afternoon
I just can't do anything with out being so breathlessness.not been advised that I have COPD yet but I will speak with the nurse today.any ideas would be great steve

  1. Hi evets, and welcome! I see you are a new member here, having joined much earlier today. We are glad to see you are already engaged with the community by posting this, your first comment.
You may be aware, we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), but your concern certainly warrants a reply.
From my own perspective, it sounds to me like your shortness of breath (SOB), may be a result of having 75% of the left lung surgically removed. With so much less lung volume and so much less lung capacity, that could easily be the cause of your consistent breathlessness. It may even have a bearing on the oxygen saturation level when you engage in any type of activity, even mild activity.
I would suggest that you discuss this extensively, and further, with the respiratory nurse, who you are scheduled to see this afternoon. Additionally, you may want to talk about this with the surgeon who performed the surgical lung procedure. I also thought you might want to consider seeing a pulmonologist besides the general practitioner, who doesn't seem to have a good understanding of the physiology that is currently affecting your condition, post operatively.
What do you think of these ideas moving forward?
Please do check back and let us know how the conversation this afternoon turns out for you.
I will look forward to continuing conversations with you here, if you so choose.
