Moving to another State.

Oregon Cost to Livingston Texas in an RV. Had 3 flare ups this year, but even though we have been here for a month, I am having trouble getting help. Had bronchitis since 5 years old. Now 71. 2 years ago, due to bad doctor and hospital, I woke up in ICU with severe hypoxemia. Have not been the same since.
Now, I just want to lay down and sleep. Making a coffee makes me out of breath, and any small task. It hurts to breath. I believe I am stage 4, but due to poor care in Oregon, I dont know. I went from 103lbs to 88lbs this last 2 weeks. Muscles cramp and wake up with headaches. Just looking up or down makes me very dizzy. I could not bring my oxygen from Oregon, due to space limit and feel like I need it now. Every day gets worse. Do I go to a hospital or Urgent care for oxygen and meds. I dont know. Still waiting on Texas health plan to call me, so worry about cost.

Last week, I felt so bad I just wanted to go to sleep and die. My friend who I live with doesn't understand how bad I feel. He tries though. I am having a hard time telling him how sick I am. I need help. Please.

  1. Hi CM947, and thanks for sharing your medical history here with the community. If I understand you correctly, you are now in Texas, awaiting information as regards, health insurance in Texas.
The decision whether to go to an urgent care center or the emergency department (ED) of a hospital will, ultimately, be your choice. It sounds, from what you've shared here, like you are struggling with this disease at this point in time. If your friend can assist you, between the two of you, you should be able to decide how to access medical care next. Since you've told us that you have been feeling this way for some time, I would think you may want to seek our (medical) intervention - probably sooner rather than later.
    What do you think?
Please do check back and let us know how this all turns out for you.
We have a genuine concern for your good health.
    Wishing you well,
    Leon (site moderator COPD.net)

  3. CM947,
Let me try this again. Not sure why my previous reply never made it to the board, as I tried twice. I was wondering at your stated age of 71, why are you not using Medicare for treatment? I was also wondering why leaving something as important to your health as your oxygen was left behind because of not enough room for it. I would have made room for it one way or another.
I also live in Texas, about 50 miles east of San Antonio. I am 68 years old and am recovering from mycobacterial pneumonia along with COPD. I was in ICU last November for a week and Medicare took care of 98% of my hospital bill. I do not have COPD bad enough to require oxygen yet, as I am just a hair below mild on the breathing test. I am at 78%. There are some days when I just feel at a loss for energy and do nothing. I do my best to exercise daily and follow my doctor's instructions closely.
Please don't wait on the state to answer you about medical plans before seeking medical help. That could cause more complications that you do not need. Get to Urgent Care or an Emergency Room asap Please!
