Lung Denervation

Hi, my brother struggles with his COPD, and I'm aware that the treatment of Lung Denervation is available privately and I'm wondering if anybody knows how much this proceedure is likely to cost? Many thanks.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! How awesome that you are researching treatment options on your brother's behalf. Here is an article from our archives about lung denervation: https://copd.net/clinical/tld. From what I have found in a Google search, several hospitals have begun offering the procedure in the United States. The FDA designated the system that delivers the treatment as a Breakthrough Device in 2020, which helps speed up the eventual approval process. I could not find anything about the cost, but it might be worthwhile to look for clinical trials. The FDA designation likely means that there are active trials underway. You could also call some of the hospitals (derived from an internet search) that have performed the procedure to learn more. Keep us posted if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you both. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thank you so much for your reply, you're very kiind. x

      1. Hi - I love that you know enough about this to have even heard about lung denervation! As Lori said, there are clinical trials going on now. I've asked around a little and so far it looks like signs are very hopeful that it may have long lasting results in lessening COPD exacerbations - but of course, only time will tell.

Lori had a good suggestion regarding calling local hospitals. You may also try some specialized clinics/pulmonology specialists as well. You never know who has information until you ask.

Wishing you and your brother the best.

        1. Thank you Lynn, it breaks my heart to see my brother suffering with his breathing, and I pray this is a big breakthrough for people like him who started smoking when very little was known about the dangers involved in this terrible practice.
