Thanks for the post and the question - it's a good one! As it turns out, there are various breathing strategies which help folks with COPD to breathe better. We actually have a wealth of material, which speaks to this very topic, published right here on COPD.net. For your convenience, here is a link to several of those articles: https://copd.net/search?s=breathing%20strategies. I do hope you find the information is helpful, for your husband, in a practical way.

    1. You may also want to talk to his doctor to see if he might benefit from pulmonary rehab. They can come up with a plan and exercises that can help support better breathing. -Melissa, copd.net team

      1. Welcome to the community! You’ve asked a very good question which I’m hoping other members can weigh in on . You might also want to check out the stories and forums sections on site in addition to the great articles found here. It’s a great way to connect with other community members and and learn from each other which types of exercises they find beneficial.
I also found some great information pertaining to breathing exercises on the American Lung Association website. They actually have videos of people practicing the breathing exercises which could be helpful for your husband. Personally I learn best through modeling but everyone is different. I have included a direct link to the site if you’d like to check it out.
