How long on average do most individuals stay in any given stage of COPD?

I have been diagnosed at being between stage 1 and 2. I quit smoking 4 years ago when I first notice my breathing was becoming different. Was diagnosed last month. Thanks for any info you can give me

  1. kenmel - I really wish there was a diffinitive answer to that, but there simply isn't. Every single person with COPD is different.
However, it sounds like you've done exactly what you should have to stay healthy and manage the COPD in it's earliest stages - which means it's likely to progress at a much slower rate if you keep that up. Do everything the doctor says - eat well, hydrate, get exercise, take any medications you've been prescribed, and get rest.

    1. Hi kenmel and thanks for your post. First, I'd like to congratulate you on being smoke-free for 4 years. That is a genuine accomplishment and, one of the best things you could have done to help manage your condition.
Next, I'd like to emphasize Lyn's excellent comment by providing you with a link to this material. It speaks to ways in which the progression of COPD can be slowed down: https://copd.net/living/progress-can-be-slowed/. I do hope you find it to be helpful.
      Wishing you well,
