What does Fev1 57 mean?

What stage is this? Also have severe asthma.

  1. Hi nancy5 and thanks for your question. You may be aware we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), but your concern certainly warrants a reply. In the most general of terms, the FEV1 helps to assess how much air you can exhale forcefully in the first one second of a (forced) exhaled breath. It helps the physician assess the level of obstruction for your condition. (asthma and COPD). You may want to discuss this further with your physician. I thought you might gain some additional insight by reviewing this article by our own John Bottrell: https://copd.net/clinical/what-is-pulmonary-function-testing/. I hope this brief reply has provided you with some helpful information. Warm regards, Leon (site moderator)

    1. Hi Nancy5,
As Leon said, you could read this article as it helps to explain what the terminology means. This is often the hard part and the learning curve. I find it helpful to write down a list of questions for my doctor before I go into see them and then I get all the questions answered.
