What to do in the time it takes to get COVID-19 under control?

I'm a retired nurse / EMT. I have end stage COPD, am on 8LPM oxygen, and I have Secondary Progressive MS which means I've got a big red bullseye on my head when it comes to COVID-19. I know the reality of what has to happen before the virus will no longer pose an imminent threat and does that mean that others like me, who are in the high risk group will just have to self isolate until.......?

  1. Hello BobU, thank you for reaching out! You certainly live with some significant health concerns, made much scarier during this time of Covid-19. Self-isolation is hard, particularly when so many are refusing to consider the genuine impact their actions could have. As a former RN/ENT, you understand the science of the situation. I hear how frustrating it feels that those who are high risk need to isolate and quarantine themselves with even more diligence and for more extended periods, but it may be what is required to stay safe. Fortunately, many others who are not high risk (myself and family included), are continuing to observe strict social distancing and listening to the medical professionals and scientists. We are here and we care about how Covid-19 could affect high-risk people, like you and others in the community. Please know you are not alone. We are here to listen and offer what support we can when you feel lonely and overwhelmed by this new reality. Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (COPD.net team)

      1. Hi Bobu, no kidding- this virus has me scared poop less! I have been self isolating since it started. I mean isolated. My groceries are dropped off, prescriptions are mailed, Dr appointments by phone. Soon, at least the new tv series will begin! Never even noticed that before. I am in Arizona, our numbers just quadrupled. Do you facebook or play games online? Do you own a car or a friend that wouldn’t mind disinfecting theirs and taking you for a ride to no where or thru a McDonald s for a 79 cent cone on you? Just thinking ... stay safe
