What medication/s have you used to cure a recurring “thrush” infection?

I’ve only been diagnosed with COPD/Chronic Bronchitis since last year. I’m using Advair 500/50 and a rescue inhaler. While at the dentist yesterday for a routine cleaning, the hygienist asked if my throat was sore as “the tissue was very red and peeling with white spots”.

  1. Hi ibecarrieat, and thank you for your post. In addition to the excellent response provided by my colleague, Janet, I thought you might find this article on "thrush" provides you with some additional insight for your expressed concern: https://copd.net/living/sore-tongue-thrush/. I do hope you find it to be helpful. Please do check back and let us know how you're doing. Wishing you well, Leon (site moderator)

    1. No one ever said to rinse and spit after using a inhaler. Why would the pharmacy or/and doctor not mention this? Is this true for all inhalers, maintainance and rescue ones too?

      1. i too hadn't been told to rinse/gargle after a inhaler w/steriods and got oral thrush badly.(no joke)my pcp prescribed nystatin.its a bright yellow liquid that you swish around in your mouth / gargle as well.i been using it 4x a day and its working.

      2. Hi soldiergirl, and thanks for your post here (and elsewhere, too, on our community platform). I'm sorry to hear you've had 'thrush' from the metered dose inhalers (MDI's). However, it is gratifying to read that you are seeing some improvement using Nystatin.
        Keep up the good work!
        All the best,

    2. I do the rinse and gargle and still get thrish. I talked to my pcp and she put me on Fluconazole tablet USP 150g once a week and I haven't had any more trouble with thrush.

      1. Hi Cate1959 and thanks for joining in the conversation here. It sounds like, you found a solution to the 'rinse and gargle' not being effective for you. Glad to know the solution was a medication prescribed by your physician. We appreciate you sharing this with the community. All the best, Leon (site moderator)

    3. I was told to rinse after any steroid I use. That's what causing thrush. I get thrush a lot.
