Sudden difficulty in breathing

As of late, I have noticed late in the afternoon I suddenly start having difficulty breathing… to the point of a burning sensation in my lungs
My question is why would this occur when I am having a normal day.

  1. Hi, just wondering so I am clearer - did you already get diagnosed with COPD and are asking about a symptom, or are you wondering if it is caused by COPD? Either way, it can be difficult to tell over the Internet so if you have not seen a pulmonary specialist it may be time to think about looking into that. We can also point you in the direction of some other resources and information regarding COPD, and you also might find this article helpful: https://copd.net/living/has-asthma-progressed Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help. 1. Yes I was diagnosed for COPD about 6 years ago…. I use an inhaler every morning and with these sudden attacks now coming in the afternoon… I’m wondering if I should wait and use my inhaler later in the day. Also I am 79 years old, but still fairly active. Maybe it isn’t related to my condition but it feels like it. Thanks

      1. Hi. I do not have COPD. But I have a similar disease in asthma. And have the severe type. And I can tell you that there are times when I get short of breath out of the blue. And that's what your rescue inhaler is for. Do you use that when you are feeling like this? Does it help? Because it usually helps me and gets me back to feeling normal again. And this is just normal for ME. In your case, is it your new normal?Or, are there tweaks your doctor can make to help PREVENT you from experiencing this. When you say use your inhaler later in the day, are you referring to your rescue inhaler? Or some other inhaler? John. community moderator.

    2. Thanks, John for your response
I use Anora daily and yes I do use the rescue inhaler when necessary. This sudden issue of not being able to breathe well has been going on for several weeks.
Was thinking if I used Anora later in the day that perhaps this would go away. I will see my pulmonologist within the next few months so I will definitely bring this to her attention. I could be wrong, but when the dew point drops quickly, I think it might trigger this…. Is your condition effected by the weather?

      1. many in our community have shared that they are affected by the weather! You can read some of those experiences here: https://copd.net/living/weather-changes and https://copd.net/living/respiratory-warnings Best, Sam S. (COPD team).
