Stage IV and Rehab

My FEV is 27% and it seems it is getting worse by the day. I do not cough up anything anymore and I am too out of breath to even think. Will rehab help stage IV? I have to do something, I do not want to die anytime soon.

  1. Hi Joye, I am sure others will chime in with their experience with pulmonary rehab. From what I have heard though, many have had a positive experience with it and find it really helpful. Wishing you a peaceful day. All the best, Sam S. (team member).

    1. Hi joye, and thanks for your post. I see my colleague, , has already chimed in and shared some interesting material which focuses on your concerns with pulmonary rehabilitation and advanced COPD.
Many of our community members are living long, productive and enjoyable lives with COPD.
Have you had an opportunity to discuss this with your physician as yet? The doctor may have some advice or be able to make suggestions as well.
      What do you think?

      1. I'm so sorry you have been struggling. I see you've had a couple suggestions. Have you spoken to your doctor yet? Please keep us updated on how you're doing. Wishing you all the best, April - COPD. net Team

        1. I use Mucinex that loosens the mucus it helps to cough up what you need to get out

      2. Your Pulmonologist would be the one to refer you if you're seeing one, or else a primary doctor. I went to a cardio-rehab program at a local hospital that was very useful after a traumatic chest injury. There were patients on oxygen in wheelchairs. There were exercises they would do to build up muscle mass, and classes to help with breathing techniques that helped them expand their chest muscles. It was nice to see them gain confidence, and improve. Some graduated from the wheelchairs to some walking. An instructor had had a heart transplant, and taught the harmonica method he used during recuperation that helped get oxygen to his lungs. They monitor oxygen, and your heart during exercise. Go for it! They would evaluate you, and then determine if it would be helpful. I'm not sure if they base eligibility on a 5-minute walk test, and PFT testing.
