I have COPD, sleep apnea, & lost both upper lobes to LC - anyone like me?

  1. Hi KateK, and thanks for this post in our Q & A section. I remember reading from various members here who have mentioned COPD, and sleep apnea and lung cancer. Hopefully, some will see your post and chime in on their own.

You may also want to consider posting this on our COPD Facebook page. Many of our members can be found there throughout the day talking about all sorts of topics related to COPD. You can find the link at the bottom of this page.

    Wishing you well,

    1. I,also, have COPD and sleep apnea and had a wedge resection of my right upper lobe for a cancerous nodule. This was in 2017. Felt wonderful all followup ct scans are cancer free. However. I had a bronchial infection the set me back and put me on oxygen 2 1/2. Still am cancer free.

  2. Thanks for the suggestion.

    1. It's our pleasure, KateK - hope to see you there as well.
      Warmly,

      1. Luckyme1, congrats on being cancer free. I wish my dr had done a wedge resection on me. Instead he took both upper lobes.
Are you still on oxygen? I am, but only over night because of the sleep apnea.

        1. Hello KateK, I went to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and was a part of a study for the wedge resection using a procedure called tumor glow. Before my surgery I was injected with a dye that attaches to the cancer cells and glows. The Dr was able to see all cancer cells and remove them. My cancer was only at stage 1. I was very lucky. I'm sure that your doctor did what he thought was right for you. Also, I use my oxygen with my cpap. An attachment to your hose that you attach the oxygen hose to. Ask your doctor to order one for you from your supplier. It's very inexpensive. By the way I'm a 73 year young woman and doing the best I can. Be well.

        2. Hi luckyme1, my first surgery was in 2013, I was stage 2. Second time I was 1a. I agree, I think we were both very lucky.
I only use the oxygen because I cant use the cpap. After my second LC surgery, I found that I was fighting to exhale against the incoming air from the machine, even with the setting at the lowest possible? I was swallowing so much air at night, I felt pregnant complete with the moving baby. I was also retaining more co2.
I'm 63 years young, and you can probably tell by my name, I'm a woman.
The best we can do, is all we can do. Take care of yourself
