Shortness of breath

Does anyone else have trouble with shortness of breath, I'm having real problems and tightness on my chest, but because my oxygen levels are always good so why can't i breath, I have emphysema/copd, but won't give me oxygen, and can't get a ct scan on my lungs to see if they are worse, what to do, I expect lots of you have similar experiences

  1. Oh yes I have it all the time espec walking up my outside steps & there’s a lot of them. I’m not on oxygen either just Anoro inhaler but I just joined Weight Watchers online diabetic program cause my PCP said I have Diabetes now & to try to get my weight down that it would help w breathing too.

    1. It sounds like you are taking some positive steps to manage your COPD. I hope that WW gives you the support and tools you need for weight loss. Can I ask why your doctor won't give you oxygen or a CT scan? Was there a specific reason given? Remember, you are the best judge of what's happening with your body, and if something doesn't feel right, it's worth advocating for yourself. I wonder if a second opinion might be helpful. Regardless, you deserve to be taken seriously and we are here for you! Please let us know if we can answer other questions or if you just want to talk. -Melissa, copd.net team

  2. you are definitely not alone in this experience! Here is an article that might help explain why this happens: https://copd.net/clinical/breathlessness-vs-oxygen-saturation All the best, Sam S. (COPD.net, team member).

    1. Won't give me oxygen, because my oxygen level is ok, Won't give me a ct scan due to the rays my make things worse 😑 😤, you can't win with the doctors/consultants

      1. Just had spirometry test, which won't be acceptable as couldn't do it coughing all the time, even though my oxygen level was 95, so what the heck can i do

        1. Hi again, CM2353, and thanks for letting us know. I will wish you 'good luck!' at your appointment with the consultant. Please do check back and let us know how it all turns out for you. I also hope the answers will be forthcoming!
