Always out of breath.

Hi my name is Jessica I have had COPD for about 14 to 16 years now and I am struggling.

  1. ,
Are you struggling to breathe all the time or just when doing any physical activity? Are you on inhalers, nebulizers, oxygen? Have you contacted your medical team? Do you know what stage you are in your COPD? Have you had a PFT test recently? If you have had COPD for 14-16 years, I would suspect you are getting to end stage COPD. I am on the same journey as are most members of this forum. We all will be in that same boat sooner or later. All we can do is do our best to keep the progression of the disease at bay for as long as possible. Having a positive attitude helps a lot. Please contact your medical team and ask for help. That is what they are there for. Take care and God Bless!

    1. I understand your shortness of breath. I am regretfully in the end stage category BUT I continue to adapt my daily life events as much as possible. I’ve found when I’m pretty breathless from moving around attending to short tasks, if I sit with a fan blowing across my face, head and shoulders I relax almost immediately and breathing becomes much easier. I have a rotating tower fan with 4 speeds. I may start on 4 and gradually lower it to 1 and then turn it off. I suggest not having it blow directly in your face. I don’t rotate the fan until after my breathing is comfortable

        1. Hi ! I just wanted to check in on you and see how you are doing this week. Have you had a chance to look at the suggestions from the community here? It's always worth checking in with your doctor to see what other options might be on the table, whether that's a change of medication, changing your oxygen amount or type of machine, etc. I would also add that pulmonary rehab can be a great opportunity for some improvement, even for severe copd. It is a daytime program and they will work with you within whatever your capabilities are. They will teach you how to breathe more efficiently and also the best way to take care of yourself with whatever your current condition is. There are virtual programs as well if leaving home is a problem. Your doctor should be able to refer you if you talk to them. We are here from you, and as you can see from the comments, you are not alone. Sending you a hug today. -Melissa, team member
