RSV Vaccine

Good Evening all, I was wondering how many of you on this site has had an RSV vaccine? I saw my pulmonologist last week, and he suggested I get one. He also said my lungs sounded good. I'll take that as a win. Thank you in advance for your input.

Blessings,

Susan

  1. Hi Susan, I don't think I have had that, what does it stand for, I will watch this post of yours and might learn something from what other people, members have to say at this.X

    1. here is an article with some helpful information! https://copd.net/clinical/recommended-vaccines Best, Sam S. (COPD team).

    2. while I understand they may be recommended, I will never again get another Covid vaccine ever. I'm not a huge fan of pushing chemicals into my body, and the RSV vaccine was only approved this past March. Sometimes natural immunity is best. I know the research that goes into vaccine production, a very close friend works for Pfizer and I am a former vet tech so not a stranger to the medical field. I appreciate your input. Best Susan

  2. Susan,
My pulmonologist asked me the same thing last month. He also asked me if I had gotten a pneumonia vaccine. I told him no. He actually laughed because he told me neither vaccine covers more than one out of over 40 possible variants of each. I told him that was pretty low odds of protection he laughed again and agreed. But he never once suggested I get either. He is a very well-respected doctor. Besides a pulmonologist, he is an internist, and a nephrologist. I will take him at his word. If he isn't recommending them, I am not getting them. I also cannot remember any flu shot being more than 20% or so effective. So, what is the point? Oh yeah, making money for the pharm industry. Just my two cents. Take care and God Bless!

    1. I am kind of sitting on the fence about getting another COVID shot too. I have had a flu shot and a pneumonia shot, but not pushing to get the rest of them just yet. I think the life span of the protection is fairly short lived as well. Barbara Moore (Moderator)

    2. that may be true, but in my experience, doctors do not always know what's best, but rather push a particular agenda. Susan

  3. My husband and I considered getting one but it is a $300.00 cost for each of us. A tad pricey after paying for my shingles shot. My insurance didn't cover it. If I get RSV, I will regret my decision but it is simply not cost effective at this time. Barbara Moore (Moderator)

    1. my goodness, I'm not sure what kind of insurance you have, but that's sad. The whole medical profession in my opinion has turned into more for profits than for care. Wishing you the very best. Susan

    2. In Ontario, Canada, the government is moving toward a fee for services model that means if you don't pay, you don't get services. It is a very sad state of affairs'. Barbara Moore (Moderator)
