, I never really thought about it. But now that you bring it up, the powder is not like dust, pollen, or other substances that cause flare ups. It is obviously biologically adsorbable by the body. I am not sure if that is the proper wording. I know that they work for me. I have been using powder inhalers for a year now and without them, I am sure I would have been in the hospital numerous times.

That's a great question! They were actually developed in part because of the difficulty some people had getting the correct dose of medication from their Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI). The Dry Powder Inhalers (DPI's) are generally easier to use and actually have less irritants than an MDI. Studies that have been done show they have very similar effects on the lungs and work very well. In fact, in my practice I've noticed patients cough less after taking a DPI than they do after taking an MDI. Best, Lyn (Moderator, COPD.net)
