Congratulations on your sobriety, Richi. It is certainly not easy and I hear the concern you have in protecting it. It can get especially tricky when we have medical needs and want to avoid old patterns of overuse. Have you had an honest talk with your doctor about your recovery?
It may be worth having a longer discussion where you work together to decide the circumstances where you'd take your as needed medication, how often, and what to do if you're still struggling. In the asthma community, most people have an "asthma action plan" that explains what they should do, step by step, if they start experiencing symptoms. That way they don't have to panic or waste time in a serious moment -- they can just follow the plan. Something like this may be useful for you, but I'm not an expert, so feel free to disregard if it doesn't make sense in your situation.
Keep taking good care of yourself, one day at a time. -Melissa, team member
