physical therapists

Would a physical therapist who comes to the home be a good idea for my husband who will not exercise?
I feel like if there was a trained person who could come help him regain his strength it would be a good thing. Any thoughts on this?
Of course I will find one hopefully that knows about COPD
thanks,
Vicki

  1. Hi Vicki - I think that is a good place to start. If you are able to have in home physical therapy - this may be a big help for your husband, Dan.
I would suggest you let the physical therapist know ahead of time what your plans are. That way, the therapist can be properly prepared prior to arriving at your home and will be ready to work with Dan right away.
    What do you think?

    1. After I was hospitalized with pneumonia in April, I went to a rehab facility for a few weeks. They got me started there on PT. Medicare paid for everything. When I went home, they set me up with home health care, which included 2 PT therapists (one occupational and one physical - two different types of PT) who came for an hour twice weekly each for several months, all provided by Medicare. If I need more in the future they will also provide that. It helped me greatly to get back up and around the house again. It took a lot to relearn activity and regain strength and it is not intuitive, so yes, I think it would benefit him. Hope this helps.

      1. Thank you for your reply. I did talk to Dr about it and I posted an update on the situation. At lest your reply gives me hope! Have a good day!
        Thanks again,
        Vicki

    2. That's a really good idea! My father-in-law, who has COPD, recently fell and a physical therapist has been coming to the house to help him exercise and mobilize. It's been great! He'll do things for the physical therapist that he won't do for the family - you know how that is. I'm hoping that even after he's not coming to the house any longer my father-in-law will continue to do the exercises.
It's certainly worth speaking to the doctor about.
