Natural COPD meds.

I need to know if their is anyone using natural products to combat COPD? If so do they really work ? I have been trying some that seem to make me better and my flare ups are almost gone now. I use red ginseng and turmeric in pill form and I also am using a diffuser in my bedroom. It keeps the coughing away. I haven't used my ProAir HFA inhaler but few times since I started this a couple of months ago. Before I was using it everyday. I still am using my Onoro once a day. I was wondering is the Neti inhalers worked and is anyone on here has tried them. Also the salt lamp in the room helps too. You may think I am nuts but I do not like all these drugs that can cause so many side effects. Eating right helps too and I am also into exercising which helps. Well thats all for now later all.

  1. Hi OlHip and thanks for your post. While I hope you will hear back from others in the community concerning their experiences with natural products, it's good to hear that what you are currently doing has had such positive results for you. Keep up the good work and please do keep us posted on your continued progress. All the best, Leon (site moderator)

    1. I have been using a regiment of N-A-C. At first I didn’t think it was helping much, but after about three weeks, I could really tell a difference if I missed taking it. There are several Brands, some that have a real smell, but I found one that didn’t. If you try it, be sure to give it a chance for at least two weeks. Depending on the severity of your COPD will determine the dosage.

      1. Hi again, glw1973 - glad to hear that N-A-C works well for you. For the benefit of our readers who may not be familiar with the acronym, glw is referring to N-Acetylcysteine, which may be used to treat issues with thickening mucus. It's always a good idea to speak with one's physician prior to starting any type of medication.
        We appreciate your input, glw!

        1. I found this below while researching natural treatments for emphysema.
I’ve only put the abstract. The full case report said that the gentlemen continued with the treatment, no longer needed to use a wheelchair and no longer required oxygen. This continued for over two years until death from Congestive Heart Failure. Sounds promising.

The use of nebulized glutathione in the treatment of emphysema: a case report.
Lamson DW, et al. Altern Med Rev. 2000.

          Abstract
We present the case of a 95-year-old man with an acute respiratory crisis secondary to emphysema and apparent bronchial infection. Treatment with nebulized glutathione led to a rapid resolution of the crisis, as well as a marked improvement in the chronic course of the disease. This treatment has been used since for a number of patients with emphysema. The safety and bioavailability of this method of delivery have been established in human studies. Preliminary results suggest efficacy for nebulized administration of glutathione in this patient population. We suggest this treatment can be considered an option for acute respiratory crises due to COPD.
