Living in Bushfire Regions

Good morning, I have early stages of COPD, and I unfortunately live in a bushfire zone in Australia, and now for the first time are experiencing effects of just back burning smoke. Can somebody help me on how to live with this situation with some suggestions on how to cope with this predicament, right now it feels like I have chronic Asthma and am incredibly shortness of breath, and we're in for a bad season for bush fires.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Hello AJDS! First I would suggest contacting your doctor and letting him/her know what is going on, they could possibly give you something to relieve the symptoms. I was thinking what about a respirator mask that is good for smoke, for when you have to go outside or even inside of the smoke is sneaking in. If you have a vehicle with air conditioning, make sure to place that on the "recycle" inside air, this might cut down on what gets in the automobile a little also. Maybe an air purifier for your home? These are just a couple thoughts I had off the top of my head, but really recommend contacting your doctor.

Oh I so wish you much luck and easier breathing.

    1. Hi , contending with wildfire smoke is something many in our community have dealt with; speaking with your doctor is a great idea and in the meantime here are some articles you might find helpful: https://copd.net/living/wildfires , https://copd.net/living/wildfires-dust-storms .
