It’s Always Something!

Hi Gang.

Took my sis a new local
PCP to establish care. We liked her most of all because my sis has been enduring intense pain greater than 3 months and not one Dr during her last three hospitalizations, her pulmonologist or PCP took X-rays to see why her bs k hurt so… maybe they just assumed she’s a lost case? Or a drug seeker?

Turns out she has wedge spinal fracture!!!! As a double spinal fusion warrior from 2019, I know crippling back pain. No wonder she is feeling even worse aside from usual air hunger. Can you believe it? Geez.

But, now what? She can’t successfully have surgery due to her COPD 4- as she cannot lay in her back due to pressure plus going under anesthesia seems like a dangerous thing.

I’m having my hip replacement surgery tomorrow so she must wait to see an orthopedist. Pulmonologist at UCSD in a few weeks.

  1. Thank goodness she came to live with you, ! The fracture might never have been diagnosed. Though doctors often warn against surgery for people who are stage 4, there might be safe ways to do it in her case. So, don't rule surgery out. Just be sure the surgeon and her pulmonongist work together to determine whether she is a candidate and on the approaches to positioning and anesthesia. I hope your hip replacement went well. Did you have anterior or posterior replacement? - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi !

I had a posterior approach, but so far great! No terrible pain. Just standard tenderness and stiffness. But really all is well.

      1. That's great, . My husband had a tough time for the first week, but he was walking without a cane within two weeks. I hope your recover is full and uneventful and that you are soon pain-free. - Lori (Team Member)
