himilayen salt crystals are they safe and do they work

ive been told inhalers with pink salt cystals help your lungs

  1. ,
That seems to be a fairly interesting question. After doing some research online, there seems to be no real definitive answer. The best I could find was "studies suggest they help loosen and dispel mucus from the lungs". I would be a bit leery about using one. Before buying one and using it, I would ask my medical provider what their recommendation would be about trying one. If you decide to give it a try, please let the forum know how it worked for you.

    1. Always a good idea to double check with the doc before trying anything new. I have also heard mixed stories -- some people see no benefit, while others, even children, find great relief. That is specifically when visiting a salt cave, though. I've never heard of inhaling salt crystals until now. Super curious to hear if anyone has experience. -Melissa, copd.net team

  2. Hi Broadway - thanks for your post and your question - it's a good one! I see our colleague/community member, , has already responded. I do hope you have an opportunity to look over this comment. (Thanks, Dminor!)
I also have something to contribute. As Dminor intimated, the 'jury is still out' when it comes to Himalayan salt crystal treatments. I know folks who love using them, while still others think they are useless.
I thought you might find it interesting to look over this article, authored by one of the moderators on our sister site, asthma.net, in which she shares her own personal experiences in a salt cave: https://asthma.net/living/visiting-a-salt-cave-to-improve-my-asthma. At one time, we had a similar article published, right here on COPD.net, but when I searched for it, it may have been archived at this time. I believe the article from asthma.net (referenced above), will provide you with one person's experience.

Moving forward, this is the sort of therapy that you may want to discuss with your physician. The doctor will be able to determine if this therapy would be something that might be of benefit (or not), for you.
    What do you think?

    1. Hi again, - I wanted to jump in here again and mention, based on my response to you (above), that the COPD.net team was able to reach back into the archives and find the article that had been shelved, to which I referred above.
For your convenience and information, here is a link to that article: https://copd.net/answers/himalayan-salt-lamps. I do hope this information is helpful for you.
      All the best,
      Leon (site moderator COPD.net)

  3. Hi ! I haven't heard about those inhalers yet but will look more into them. I would definitely ask your doctor before trying it. I do know that for me anyway salt air from the ocean helps my breathing tremendously. I have also heard of salt caves that people go to for their lungs. The closest one to me is a little over an hour a day. Some day I can't to try it and see how it is. Best, Jackie (Moderator)
