General practitioner versus pulmonologist

My regular doctor is the one who discovered my Copd. I’m wondering if I should keep going to her for my Copd or go to a pulmonologist??

  1. ,
Definitely go to a pulmonologist. I am surprised your doctor did not refer you to one. I am lucky my primary care physician is a pulmonologist, an internist, and a nephrologist. Keep going to your primary care physician but get her to refer you to a pulmonologist.

    1. , while a primary doctor is always good to have on hand and keep updated, a pulmonologist is a specialist who may be able to offer some more specific treatments. If you need, you can ask your primary for a referral! All the best, Sam S. (COPD.net, team member).
