COPD

Although my family and friends know I have severe COPD I try not to put on them and do normal jobs but take longer I also play golf once or twice a week and use a buggy as I can no longer walk the course Sometimes its difficult to do some of the jobs when I have a really bad breathless day but then there is always tomorrow Valerie

  1. Hi Valerie ( ). How awesome that you are still able to get out there on the golf course. I am glad you are making accomodations so you can keep doing the things you enjoy. Do you get a lot of support from your family and friends? I hope you give yourself the break you need on the breathless days and that they don't happen often. Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi Lori hope you are not too bad at what stage are you ? When l'm sitting and chatting with friends l seem quite normal its on exertion where the problem is at it worst Val

      1. Hi Val (). I am one of the few moderators here who doesn't have COPD. Most of our articles are written by people living with COPD who also moderate in the community. We also have a few moderators who are respiratory therapists. So, you will find lots of different types of support here. I am learning so much here though and have gained a huge appreciation for what people with COPD go through. Have you learned exercises or techniques to bring your breathing under control when you become short or breathe. Many people with COPD reply on pursed-lip breathing. Here is an article about it if you are unfamiliar with it: https://copd.net/guest-expert/pursed-lips-are-not-just-for-kissing. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. Hi team member I have recently started coughing with copd Has the cold weather got anything to do with or is the next stage ??

      1. Hi Val - that's a good question - thanks for posting it! As you may be aware, COPD affects everyone differently. However, coughing, and sometimes productive coughing, can be a typical symptom of COPD. Symptoms can also change within stages for patients. When it comes to triggers, they too can vary among patients. It is difficult to tell what is causing the coughing in your particular case. Sometimes, coughing can be the result of a cold or allergy (in addition to COPD).
Do you have any thoughts about this? Is it something you would consider discussing with your physician?
In the meantime, I thought you might gain some additional insight from this article which focuses on COPD and coughing: https://copd.net/living/not-just-cough. I do hope you find the information is helpful for you.

        All the best,
        Leon L (author/moderator)
