Breathing

I have to slow walk with my oxygen to the car. I can still drive but my mobile scooter is to heavy for me to lift. We are looking for a lift to attach to my car. We have found out most cars won't be able to toe a lift the company who makes scooter sent us to place where they install the lifts, but we were told had to have a van this is very expensive. Does anyone know any info on how to proceed that would be less expensive?

  1. Youtube has DIY ramps for putting scooters into car. I had to lower the pedestal closer to scooter seat & it worked beautifully.
Now there are lighter weight ramps that may help you.
I had to give up my car because of disease, but my DIY ramp certainly helped. I, too, use oxygen.
    Hope this helps.

    1. Hi again, - I hear you! It can certainly be challenging loading one's scooter into the car. A ramp sounds like an excellent solution. I see our fellow member, , has already responded to your inquiry with a suggestion that worked for him/her (thanks camper!).
I followed his/her suggestion and did a search on the internet using the words youtube, car ramps, mobility scooter, etc. I was really surprised (and pleased!), to see so many different applications. I am hopeful you will be able to find something that will work for you there.
      Good luck!

      1. While I don't have any specific names, there are organizations that can help people with disabilities either fit their vehicles with the equipment they need, or help them obtain a vehicle. There are many used wheelchair vans out there that may be a bit more affordable as well. You may want to consider reaching out to a Center for Independent Living (CIL) or office for the aged or disabled in your area, they can point you in the right direction. Good luck to you!-Melissa, copd.net team
