Trelegy and oxygen saturation

I thought I'd share this. I stopped Spiriva, and Symbicort a few months ago. I'd needed to take prednisone at least monthly because I'd get so short of breath. The doctor started me on Trelegy, and his staff helped me get Medicare to cover it. It's not covered normally.

I use my oximeters when I panic, and am feeling short of breath. I can drop to 88% per my doctor, during exercise, but then I need to stop walking and make sure it comes back up within 10 minutes. It usually takes about 30 seconds to come back.

On the Trelegy I noticed my saturation levels are quite a bit higher on a regular basis. Normally they'd run at about 94, but they go up to 97 now. They still drop, but the saturation is higher. My doctor said it's the medication. I can't figure out why the medicine made that difference. Just wanted to share this, and not needing the prednisone has helped.

  1. Hi Annie, and thanks for sharing the success you're having using this medication (Trelegy). As you may be aware, the medication is a combination inhaler with three distinctly different medications that combine to provide COPD patients with long term relief for difficulty breathing.
It should be noted, it is not a rescue inhaler.
It is these three medications that are designed to help patients breathe easier and, subsequently may improve one's oxygenation.
I thought you might gain some additional insight from this article which details more information about the medication: https://copd.net/medication-overview/medications/trelegy-ellipta.
I do hope you find it to be helpful in a practical way.
    Wishing you well,
