Traveling With Supplemental Oxygen

Do you have any tips for traveling with supplemental oxygen? Are there any do's and don'ts that you follow to make the journey easier?

  1. I have a portable oxygen machine, that sits in a back pack that we used on holiday,

    1. how long does the portable battery last?

  2. How long does the portable battery last?

    1. the one I have has a battery that would last 10 hours on setting 2 Rove 6 portable oxygen machine

    2. Hi. Welcome to our COPD community. That's a great question about portable batteries. Typically, how long a battery lasts depends on the brand and the liter flow you're using. For instance, an Inogen portable oxygen concentrator can last around 4 hours at 1 liter per minute (LPM), 2 hours at 2 LPM, and approximately 1.5 hours at 3 LPM. I'll cover more details in an upcoming post, but I hope this helps for now! Wishing you all the best. John. community moderator.

  3. Flow Settings
I also have an Inogen G5 and a setting of 4 is equivalent to 2.5 liters of constant flow.

I have tested my Inogen G5 battery times on different settings. Using the large 16 cell batteries.

    Setting 1= 12.7 hours
    Setting 2= 9.7 hours
    Setting 3= 6.2 hours
    Setting 4= 4.4 hours
    Setting 5= 3.6 hours
    Setting 6= 2.7 hours

Settings do not indicate liters. (See Inogen Chart)

  4. Since the image is so small I thought I would modify the post with the "Equivalent Constant Flow". Based on 20 breaths per minute.

Settings with aproximent time and Equivalent Constant Flow
    Setting 1= 12.7 hours 630 mL
    Setting 2= 9.7 hours 1260 mL
    Setting 3= 6.2 hours 1890 mL
    Setting 4= 4.4 hours 2520 mL
    Setting 5= 3.6 hours 3150 mL
    Setting 6= 2.7 hours 3780 mL
