Taking your meds. Having COPD…

I have to wake up every three hours through out the night to take my meds. I have an alarm to wake me, but I’m so tired of not getting enough sleep and don’t know how long I will be able to do this. I need to do this or I wont be able to breath. I don’t have the money to hire a night nurse. What do you all do about taking your meds during the night.

  1. ,
Well, that doesn't sound good at all. I take meds, but none are at night. I do my Symbicort in the morning after I get up and before I go to bed at night. I take my antibiotics first thing in the morning and at suppertime. I am still clearing up mycobacteria pneumonia and clearing up a nodule in my right lung. I was having problems with when to take my meds and called my medical team and got a schedule I can deal with. I don't have any meds to take at night. You should call your doctor and see if you can get your meds adjusted as to allow you to sleep more uninterrupted at night. I am curious as to what meds require you to take them every three hours to be able to breathe. It seems to me that there should be a better, longer lasting medication out there that would allow you to sleep for a longer period of time and keep you breathing. Take care and call your doctor.

    1. To keep me from going into an excerbation I need to keep morphine in me at all times. That’s the only thing that will help. I would be afraid to change any thing to cause another flare, they are terriable. Thanks for responding. I’m hoping people with copd could tell me what they do.

      1. Hi Josergirl, and thanks for your posts. I see our community member colleague, , has already responded with sage suggestions that work quite well for him regarding dosing schedules of medication.
I agree with what he has suggested too. There are so many medications on the market today which have more manageable frequencies (only 2-3 times/day or twice-a-day dosing schedules), that perhaps these will be effective for you. One of the most important aspects of managing this disease successfully is getting adequate rest/sleep.
Do you think this aspect of treatment might be helpful for you?
