I was diagnosed with copd in 2018 i was prescribed with symbicort and incruse i also have another health issues but i had a dexa scan found out i have osteoporosis now and its pretty bad also found out i have a vitamin D and E deficiency so i was taking high dosages of vitamin d a year still very low on my vitamins i have been looking into symbicort and found out side effects are osteoporosis and vitamin deficiency my doctor says it can't be true so has anybody else been diagnosed with this or is it in my head like the doc said

  1. I was diagnosed with COPD 3 years ago and have been on Symbicort since. I have never heard of Symbicort causing osteoporosis in one year and I would question that as you have been diagnosed for only a year. Osteoporosis from Symbicort takes many years to develop (over 5) from what I understand. Where did you hear that Symbicort causes osteoporosis in a year?

    1. Thats what i have been hearing too 1 year is to short so there is another problem somewhere else i still cant get over all the problems that COPD brings to the body And mind its great i found your sight thank you for the information

    2. Hi again, Bandit, and thanks for your reply, above. We are glad that you found our site as well - we are happy to provide whatever information we can to you.
You may be aware, there are other conditions that may be associated with COPD. These are typically referred to as comorbidities. I thought this article might provide you with some additional insight for your concerns: https://copd.net/clinical/12-comorbidities/.
I do hope you find it to be helpful to read.

  2. Hi Bandit, and thanks for your post, and sharing your current medical situation with the community. After reading about your concerns, I would suggest you go along with the physician. There are other causes of osteoporosis, and you may want to discuss that further with the doctor. The fact that you are concerned about the actual cause of osteoporosis in your own case, it would be prudent to explore this further with the doctor. If you are still not satisfied, you can consider seeking out a second opinion to put your mind at ease. What do you think? Leon (site moderator)
