Swallowing

I'm having trouble swallowing. It scares me.

  1. I'm asking a question. I'm having trouble with swallowing and it scares me. face resting on chin.

    1. , I hear how scary not being able to swallow is. Having difficulty swallowing is a common symptom of COPD. Here are a few articles on swallowing that you may find helpful: https://copd.net/living/choking-aspirations, https://copd.net/living/preventing-choking, https://copd.net/living/cause-choking. Please keep us updated on how you are doing! All the best, Sam S. (COPD.net, Team Member).

      1. Hi Sandy, and thanks for your post. I see my colleague, , has already responded to you. As well, she has provided links to several articles which are focused on your very concern. It is understandable how scary this can be, having difficulty swallowing. I'm hopeful you will have an opportunity to read the material and will find it practical for your own use.
I did want to ask, have you had an opportunity to discuss the swallowing issue (you shared here with us), with your physician?
Please do let us hear back from you when you are able to and have the time.
We have a concern for your health.
        Wishing you well,

        1. I understand what you are asking because I go through it a lot here lately. Seems it happens the most at night when trying to get relaxed. It is very scary for me too. Seems the only way I can swallow is to take small drinks of water, then it allows me to swallow.

          1. Hi again, Sandy, and thank you for re-engaging in this conversation. When we last spoke, in October 2021, you were experiencing some difficulty swallowing. I see from your post (today), that you are still experiencing this difficulty but, it seems to occur primarily at night. It's understandable just how scary this must be for you. It would seem that, if you are able to swallow (with small drinks of water), that the 'swallow function' is in tact.
However, I would suggest you take this very concerning symptom up with your physician, especially since it has been over a year that you are feeling this way. You may even want to see a specialist physician. There are 'ear, nose, and throat' physicians (ENT's), who specialize in this aspect of disease and care.
Would you consider seeing one? What are your thoughts?
