Spirometry results help

Hello everyone, I am 34 years old and have been smoking for cca 15 years. I started having short breath, and need to yawn or sigh sometimes to have a normal breath and I decided to do ecg, ultrasound of the heart and spirometry annually. In June, my spirometry results were good, fvc was 3.8(predicted 3.17) fev1 3.4(predicted 2.74) ratio 89.5%. But now in december fvc was 4.88, fev1 was 4.06 while ratio dropped to 83.2%. Should I be worried and is this the early sign of COPD? Thanks a lot

  1. First off I just want to say that it is very difficult to tell anything by one test so don't worry just yet. The best bet is to check with your physician as they have the experience necessary to determine if another test is warranted or that is within the margin of acceptable, especially if your last test showed good results. I know it can be anxiety-inducing not to know and having to wait for a doctor to get back or even for another set of tests, but it just not possible to say anything definitive with just one test and over the Internet. Just know, though, whatever happens we will be here for you to listen, talk, answer what questions we can, or maybe even to provide a few laughs! Unfortunately I can't think of anything funny just now or it would be the perfect end to this post! 😊Keep on keepin' on, DPM
