I went to see my pulmonologist today. It was good news for a change. I was in ICU last October for a week due to mycobacterial pneumonia and a bleeding right lung. I went to the emergency room because of coughing up blood. A lot of blood. The resident pulmonologist (now my primary physician), saw me and after several tests and blood work, he did a bronchoscopy and cauterized some nodules in my right lung. He also biopsied the nodules. All biopsies came back negative, but the nodules remained. Fast forward to March of this year. After being on an antibiotic daily cocktail, I had another CT scan, and it showed the original nodules had dissipated. But there was another nodule (a 19mm one) in the center of my right lung. The previous ones were in the upper right of my lung. I went for another CT scan last week and saw my doctor today. The large nodule has shrunk down to 9mm. I need to stay on the antibiotics for another few months because he says the nodule is most likely still infection, but definitely not cancerous and is shrinking. I don't have another follow up until October of this year. My COPD has not gotten any worse in the past year, so all in all, it was a good visit and was good to get some upbeat news for a change. I am so thankful that I have a wonderfully caring and responsive medical team. They are the best medical team I have had in my entire life.
