Sharp chest pain

Have you found a medication that stops the "lightning bolts" of sharp pain and chest tenderness? I am talking about when feeling "normal"and not during an incident or infection. This is the constant 24/7 sharp stabbing pain that seems to increase as your heart rate increases. I have tried narcotics which do not help. I was thinking that maybe steroids but that would only be helpful if there is some infection. Thanks

  1. Hi Scotto - while we cannot provide medical advice over the internet (for your own safety), your comments certainly warrant a response. It's never a prudent thing to try medication in a 'hit or miss' style. We always advise our community members that if symptoms persist or worsen even, it is time to call your doctor. Constant sharp pains as you describe would certainly suggest strongly that you reach our for medical assistance.
Please check back with us and let us know how you're doing.

    1. Thanks for the reply. I should have been more descriptive. I was not looking for "treatment" or anything like that. I was more curious if others have had to deal with it. My COPD has contributed to my heart going into AFIB now which is not the most pleasant event. I was more curious if others had to deal with it and how were they best doing so.I do see a cardiologist and pulmonary dr on a regular basis. The usual answer is narcotics and rest etc but you know, sometimes you will find out more from actual sufferers. Thank you for the quick reply though.

      1. Oh yes!
        It's awful too.
How do you deal with it?

      2. I don't very well. I can't tell if it's COPD or my heart going into AFIB. I generally take one of the heart pills I am supposed to when it happens followed by a hot shower, fetal position, grunting and trying to breathe until it goes away. I am yet to find anything that helps though 🙁

    2. Glad to be of assistance, Scotto. It's good to hear you're under the care of specialists. Perhaps others in our community will respond to your request for shared experiences.
If you haven't as yet, you may want to check out our Facebook page - you can access it here: https://www.facebook.com/COPDDotNet/
